Somerville v Southern Derby Day (9/3/19)

The inaugural Somerville v Southern Derby Day got of to a flying start despite heavy rain delaying the opening match at Kolmar stadium on Saturday. The Somerville Premier women set the scene for what ended up being a clean-sweep for the club in all 3 matches on the day. Usual club stalwarts Julia King, Phoebe Steele and Jas McQuinn led an impressive array of young talent with newcomer and former GB international Beckie Middleton showing she will be a real asset this season and featured prominently. The Premier Reserve women achieved the highest score downing their counterparts 5-2 in emphatic display of goalscoring led by up and coming star Lulu Fulton. The premier mens match was a closely fought affair with both sides playing without prominent senior players. On the day it was the Barry Middleton coached Somerville side which finished stronger notching a 2-0 win with goals to debutant Nick Finlayson and the efforvescent Mike Ritchie.
