The Club Today

Somerville Hockey Club was founded by Lesley Howard Norton in 1915 and became an Incorporated Society in 1972. Today the Club has in excess of 600 members - around 50 teams of men, women, boys and girls, playing across all grades in the Auckland Hockey Association competition.

Our home-base is located at Auckland Grammar School turf in Mt Eden, on the Auckland city fringe with an international class water turf.

Our Mission

To create an environment where all club members past and present find being affiliated an enjoyable, rewarding and satisfying experience.

Our Core Values

Hockey Excellence – We will attract and develop the highest quality players, coaches and administrators who can consistently deliver the outcomes desired by the club.

Respect – to play for the club is a privilege not a right. We will show respect for the uniform and the history of the club. Members and supporters behave in accordance with the clubs code of conduct. We will play hard but fair.

Teamwork – no one club member is greater than the club, nor the game of hockey. We will achieve our goals by working together with club members and collaboration with the wider community - sponsors, funders, Auckland Hockey and New Zealand Hockey.

Having Fun – we believe that the social aspects of the game are enduring and should be integral to team and club activities. We will foster a social atmosphere that is safe and well natured.

Facilities

Somerville is working with Auckland Council and Auckland Hockey to explore home site options for the club in its central suburban catchment area. With its growing membership Somerville is continually seeking to foster relationships with turf providers and is grateful for the assistance of a number of local schools enabling the club to utilise a number of training venues both outdoor and indoor.
