Coaching Roles
Subscription Discount Programme
As the club grows Somerville HC continually seeks to expand its Coaching Staff. This is a necessary function of the Club but at the same time can be hugely rewarding for our coaches as well. With support from the Club Development Officer and other experienced club members our coaches often carry on to coach at representative levels.
Coaching roles within the club are at Senior, Youth and Junior levels. Current playing members can off-set their playing subscriptions by performing a coaching role. This may be in unison with another playing member. Remember, although the club offers a financial incentive this should NOT be your sole motivation for performing this role.
Junior Hockey at Somerville HC is viewed as “amateur” and priority is given to ….. FUN, DEVELOPMENT, COST EFFECTIVENESS.
All Somerville Coaches are expected to be certified by attending a pre-season Coach Education course appropriate to their level of commitment or have attended a HNZ or AHA Coaching Course.
All Somerville Coaches not under direct supervision of the Club Development Officer will undergo Police Vetting from 2020 as part of the clubs Safeguard Children Policy.
A discounted fee structure is provided below
Senior Players Coaching:
Senior, Youth & Junior Teams - 100% off subscriptions
Students Coaching:
Youth & Junior Teams - 50% off subscriptions
Parents Coaching:
Youth Teams - 50% off subscriptions
Junior Teams - Voluntary
If players elect to Co-Coach the discount will be shared accordingly.

Club Umpires wanted
Get paid to watch hockey!
Umpiring is a paid role and is predominantly needed for the Youth grades on Friday nights and Sunday mornings.
You can pick and choose availability and locations, and training will be provided. This is the perfect opportunity for a parent supporting their youth player.

School Support Programme Coach
Somerville HC is asked to provide support to school hockey programmes within its club catchment area with either PE programmes (inside curricular hours) or team support (outside curricular hours).
Our support role takes the form of assistance as the sole provider of hockey services eg (Coach, Coach Education, Umpire, provide Independent Selection Staff for trials). All Somerville Coaches are expected to be certified by attending a pre-season Coach Education course appropriate to their level of commitment or have attended a H.N.Z or A.H.A Coaching Course.
Remuneration is negotiated on behalf of the club and is paid directly to the coach through the Club’s financial officer. It is expected that schools cover accommodation and travel expenditure when coaching work is performed outside the catchment area.

Honorary Auditor
To audit the year end completed financial statements
Responsible for tracking the cash flow and accounts of club to ensure it has been recorded and processed correctly, and that the assets are protected through appropriate control measures, and that financial records meet legal standards. Would need to be qualified in finance or accounting.
